General & Breast Biopsy

Although biopsy is one of the oldest diagnostic procedures, the removal of a small sample of tissue for microscopic analysis is still a critical practice in medicine today. At Washington Radiology Associates, we perform needle biopsies in a variety of applications, particularly to determine the presence of cancer. A needle biopsy is usually much less invasive than surgery. WRA uses state-of-the-art medical equipment to perform:

Stereotactic Core Needle Biopsy - a computerized, digital mammography system is used in this procedure. Computer software accurately guides the needle to the exact area where the sample will be taken. WRA radiologists and staff monitor the process on a computer to assure that the appropriate areas are sampled.

Ultrasound Guided Needle Core Biopsy - ultrasound equipment is employed to visualize the area of the breast or other body organ/part being studied and to direct the needle where the biopsy is needed.
